Abstract

Loose gas cap leads to low hydrocarbon recovery and heightened threats to environmental sustainability. This study demonstrates that gas caps detection using well testing techniques as well as other advanced techniques, such as those of artificial intelligence and smart technologies, can significantly address issues of gas emissions, low hydrocarbon recovery and threats to environmental sustainability. The results of the study show that many reservoirs are characterized by gas cap. This situation calls for the real-world application of gas cap detection using advanced techniques. The study concludes that pressure and flow variations influence gas cap across reservoirs. Given the results, which prove the efficacy of well testing techniques for efficient gas cap detection, hydrocarbon recovery optimization and environmental sustainability drive, stakeholders have to collaboratively increase the integration of advanced technology-based techniques for result-oriented, productive and optimal gas cap detection, hydrocarbon recovery, and environmental sustainability. They should also evolve other comprehensive measures for addressing the associated issues. Further research into the theme is direly needed.
