Redesigning Office Technology and Management Programme in Tertiary Institutions for National Development in a Post-Covid Environment
Abstract
The production of skilled and competent workforce which is the main focus of office technology and management programme will be a mirage if the quality of the programme is not maintained. This study is undertaken to consider how office technology and management programme could be redesigned for national development in a post-covid environment. A descriptive survey design was employed for the study while the population consists of fifty academic staff in three tertiary institutions offering office technology and management programme in Ekiti State. Total enumeration was used as the sample because of the fewness of number. Two research questions guided the study. The research instrument used was the questionnaire and it was validated by experts in the field. The mean and standard deviation was used for the analysis of the data. The results showed that respondents are in agreement with the items listed for the study as the grand mean for the research questions were rated 3.34 and 3.60 respectively, which is above 2.50, which was the boundary limit set for the study. The study revealed that if the programme is to facilitate national development, human and material resources must be harnessed. It was therefore recommended that ICT and vocational skills should be integrated into the curriculum of Office Technology and Management by curriculum planners to promote skill acquisition among graduates of the programme.
