Abstract

The study focused on the availability and utilization of educational resources and teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Nigeria. The study was guided by three research questions, three objectives and three null hypotheses. The research design used for this study was the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consisted of 4117. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the sample size of 419 respondents. Two instruments were used for data collection for the study questionnaire and checklist. The instrument was duly validated and it yielded 0.81 as validity index. The instrument was pilot tested and the reliability index was 0.75. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while Pearson’s product moment correlation was employed to test all the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study indicated that there is a low rate of availability of educational resources in public secondary schools in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, there is a low significant relationship between utilization of material resources and teachers job performance in public secondary schools in Federal Capital Territory Abuja, Nigeria, there is a low significant relationship between utilization of financial resources and teacher job performance in public secondary schools in Federal Capital Territory Abuja, Nigeria and there is a low significant relationship between utilization of human resources and teacher job performance in public secondary schools in Federal Capital Territory Abuja, Nigeria. One of the recommendations of the study was that since the available material resources are not properly utilized, there is a need for every secondary school in FCT to employ technicians with special knowledge on each of the material resources to train teachers on how to use them judiciously to enhance their effective job performance.
