Effect of NPK fertilizer, Poultry manure, compost and their integration under different methods of application on Maize yield
Abstract
Experiment was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboo-Ora on the effect NPK fertilizer, Poultry manure, compost and their integration under different methods of application on maize yield. It was a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with treatments; No fertilizer (Co), NPK surface application (NPKS), Compost Incorporated (CM I), Compost surface (CMS), PM incorporated (PMI), PM surface (PM S) and NPK incorporated (NPKI) with their manures applied at 5 t/ha. The integrated treatments (NPKS + CMS, CMI + NPKI, PMS + NPKS and PMI + NPKI) were done at 60 kg/ha NPK and 2.5 t/ha manures and Full dose of NPK at 120 kg /N/ha replicated three times. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and the means were separated using Duncan Multiple Range Test at 5%. From the result, CS + NPK gave the highest cob diameter (5.00) followed by PMI + NPK and PMS while the Co gave the least. Also the number of seed per cob, CI + NPK plots gave the highest number of seed count (626.00) followed by CS + NPK (535.30) plots while Co gave the least (256.30). Thus, grain yield per hectare gave this order CI + NPK > CS + NPK> PMI + NPK> PMS + NPK > NPK respectively. Hence, CI + NPK or CS + NPK is thus, recommended.
