Analysis of Global Influences on Climate Policy Implementation in Nigeria
Abstract
Climate change is a phenomenon with global implications. All countries in the world are affected but some are more vulnerable to the impact of climate change than others. One of the vulnerable countries is Nigeria. Nigeria has to deal with climate change while also seeking to protect the need of its citizens. Nigeria therefore has to develop and implement its own environmental policies based on the realities on ground. However, the country has to relate with other countries in the area of technical and financial support. In addition, in as much as the country aims to protect its sovereignty, it does not wish to become a pariah nation by flaunting international orders. Maintaining this balance act requires significant level of international diplomacy. This study examines the global influence on environmental policies in Nigeria focusing on the areas of influence, trade-offs and the key policies that have been developed to protect the environment in Nigeria.
