The Effect of Human Resource Management on Organizational Performance: A Study of the Jos Electricity Distribution, Plc Makurdi
Abstract
The study investigated the effect of Human Resource Management (HRM) on the performance of Jos Electricity Distribution Company, Makurdi region. The study sought to establish effect of HRM variables of recruitment and selection, compensation management, training and development, and performance management on organizational performance. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted. A census sampling technique was employed on one hundred and eighty-seven (187) staff. Self-administered questionnaire was used as instrument of data collection for the study. The data for the study was analyzed using regression analysis with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23. The findings revealed that training and development, compensation management, have a strong positive and significant effect on the performance of Jos Electricity Distribution Company, Makurdi region. The research concluded that HRM is a predictor of organizational performance in Jos Electricity Distribution Company, Makurdi region. The research therefore recommended amongst others that Jos Electricity Distribution Company as well as other companies, should aim to improve reward structure of their employees by developing a structure which recognizes outstanding performance by teams and individual employees, developing pay package that competes with other organizations in the market.
