Funding Practical Work Experiences in Home Economics Education
Challenges and Strategies
Abstract
Practical experiences in all Home Economics Education (HEE) courses are essential for achieving self-reliance and ensuring employment opportunities for graduates. By involving students in hands-on activities, the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application is bridged, while also fostering a sense of ownership and independence in their learning. HEE is a practical oriented course, so it is very expensive and therefore needs a lot of fund for the attainment of its practical goals. No practical skill can be acquired without the provision of funds for procurement of consumables and non-consumable resource materials. Funding is the life-wire of any educational programme and the bedrock for any effective acquisition of practical skills in Home Economics Education. This paper looks into teaching and learning through practical, important of practical to acquiring learning skills and factors hindering practical works. It also identifies the various needs for funding HEE and highlights some strategies for funding HEE for effective practical experiences and proffered recommendations that fund could be sourced from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), donations from wealthy philanthropists and Alumni consultancies.
