Impact of Access and Utilization of Digital Technology on Economic Resilience in Apa Local Government Area, Benue State
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to find the Impact of access and utilization of Digital Technology on Economic Resilience in Apa Local Government Area, Benue State. As a guide to the study, two specific objectives, and two research questions were formulated. The researcher made use of descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was 2,500, A sample of 300 respondents was selected using a multistage sampling technique: Stratified sampling was used to group respondents into categories. The main instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire, titled “Digital Technology and Economic Resilience Questionnaire (DTEDQ)” descriptive statistics (mean, frequency, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis) to determine the relationship between digital technology and the key variables: economic resilience, innovation, and inclusive growth. Qualitative responses from open-ended questions and interviews were analyzed using thematic content analysis to identify recurring patterns, challenges, and opportunities. The result of the study showed among other that, large majority (80%) of respondents in Apa LGA have access to smartphones or internet-enabled devices, Respondents agreed that digital tools helped them sustain and adapt their businesses during economic shocks (mean = 4.12), Many local entrepreneurs use digital platforms (e.g., WhatsApp, Facebook) to promote new products and services. The study recommends among other that government at both state and local levels, in partnership with private telecom providers, should invest in expanding broadband internet, mobile network coverage, and power supply in Apa LGA. This will address the digital divide and facilitate access to essential services, digital marketplaces, and online platforms for businesses and households. Also, Comprehensive digital literacy programs should be introduced in schools, community centers, and through NGOs to enhance the ability of youth, women, and small business owners to use digital tools effectively. Training should cover mobile apps, online marketing, digital financial services, and cybersecurity.
