Management Information Systems (MIS) and Teachers’ Performance in Ilorin-West Selected Public Secondary Schools, Kwara State, Nigeria
Abstract
Management information system has been a major contributory factor to teacher’s effectiveness in the educational sector globally. The paper investigated the relationship between management information system and teachers’ performance in selected public secondary schools in Ilorin-West, Kwara State. The objective of the study was to empirically examine how management information system relates with teacher’s performance in terms of teaching potentials, relationship with principals, relationship with students, relationship with parents and proficiency in students’ academic performance in selected public secondary schools, Ilorin-West, Kwara State. Descriptive survey research design was utilized in the study. The population of the study consisted of two thousand two hundred and twenty-four (2,224) teachers from public secondary schools. Two hundred and twenty-four (224) were selected as sample adopting simple random sampling technique which represents 10% of the total population of teachers in the local government. Out of 224 copies of the validated questionnaire that were administered, the researchers were able to retrieve 218. The data obtained from the field were analyzed using Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficient and t-test with the aid of SPSS Version 22.0. Four hypotheses were tested using Spearman Rank Order Correlation. Based on the empirical analysis carried out, the study revealed that: management information system has a strong positive relationship with teachers’ performance in terms of their relationships with principals, students, parents and students’ proficiency in academics. Among others, the study recommended that government should train their teachers who will competently adopt management information systems so as to favourably compete with their counterparts in terms of their relationship with principals, parents, students and a better students’ academic performance.
