Prospects and Challenges of Production and Selling of Wheat Bread in Bida Metropolis
Abstract
This study aims to assess the potential prospects and challenges of wheat bread production in Bida, Niger State. A survey design was employed, gathering data from a sample of 205 respondents, including residents and local bakeries, using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were utilized for analysis. The findings indicate a high demand for wheat bread in Bida, driven by its perceived health benefits, with many consumers willing to pay a premium for it. However, local bakeries face several challenges, including the high cost of wheat flour, lack of modern baking equipment, and unreliable electricity supply. Additionally, competition from established businesses and distribution barriers hinder the growth of local wheat bread production. The study recommends investing in modern equipment, improving electricity access, developing a distribution network, and providing training to improve production capacity and quality. These efforts are expected to enhance the prospects of wheat bread production and contribute to the local economy in Bida.
