Security Challenges as a Hindrance for Promoting Quality Assurance in Pre-Primary and Primary School in Nigeria
Abstract
Security challenges not only affect the development of the country, but also affect the quality assurance of pre-primary and primary education which are the basis for the rest of education to survive. Therefore, this paper was designed to examine security challenges as a hindrance for promoting quality assurance in pre-primary and primary school in Nigeria. To achieve the specific objective, three research questions are proposed to guide the study. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprises of one thousand three hundred and eight (1308) pre-primary and primary education teachers in Gwagwalada Area Council of FCT Abuja, Nigeria. Simple random sampling techniques was used to select twenty four (35) respondents each from four schools making a total of one hundred and forty (140) for the purpose of the study. The instrument for data collection were questionnaire. The statistical tools used for data collection were frequency counts, table and simple percentage. The findings revealed that, insurgency activities are the major security challenges affecting quality assurance promptness and teachers productivity in pre-primary and primary education and that, if security challenges must be wipeout completely, different approaches must be employ in promoting quality assurance in basic level of education in the country. The paper therefore recommends that, government should put every measure to curb the menace of insecurity situation in various part of the country. This will promote quality assurance in pre-primary and primary education and also curriculum planners and supervisory agencies should ensure that they implement a standard guideline, training, and evaluation in promoting quality assurance at federal and state levels.
